University of Auckland
University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship
New Zealand's top-ranked university offers this award twice a year to new international master's students. It pays 25% of one year's tuition fees. You don't apply upfront: if you hold a programme offer by the cut-off, the University invites you to complete a short supplementary form, and awards are made on the recommendation of your faculty.
Application round
For the Semester One and Quarter Two 2027 intake, you need a programme offer by 20 October 2026. Invitations to complete the supplementary form go out on 21 October 2026 and the form must be submitted online by 4 November 2026. No closing time is published.
The IELTS requirement
The scholarship has no IELTS score of its own, and a conditional offer is enough to be invited, so you can sit the test after the cut-off. You still need your programme's English requirement to enrol: Auckland's common postgraduate standard is IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, with higher scores for some programmes such as education and nursing. Aim to have the result before the semester starts in late February.
