American Association of University Women (AAUW)
AAUW International Fellowships (USA, women in STEM)
AAUW's fellowship for women who are not US citizens or permanent residents and are doing their first master's or a doctorate in a STEM field in the United States. The money goes towards tuition, fees, course materials and living costs, paid in two instalments.
Application round
The 2027-28 round opened on 17 August 2026 at 09:00 US Eastern time and closed on 17 September 2026 at 17:00 Eastern (04:00 on 18 September in Thailand). Results come out in March 2027.
Next round
The 2028-29 round is not announced yet. If AAUW keeps the 2027-28 timing, it will open in mid-August 2027 and close in mid-September 2027, so plan to have IELTS 6.5 by July 2027.
The IELTS requirement
AAUW asks for IELTS 6.5 overall (no per-skill minimum), or TOEFL iBT 79, TOEFL Essentials 8.5, Cambridge 176 or Duolingo 120. Proof of English is part of the application and incomplete applications are not reviewed, so the score has to be ready by the September deadline. Scores are valid for two years. You are exempt if your bachelor's degree or secondary diploma is from an English-speaking institution, or after a full-time semester of study in your discipline at one.
