Royal Thai Government (RTG) Fellowships at AIT
The Thai government funds these fellowships for Thai nationals to study at AIT, the international graduate institute in Pathum Thani. They pay all or part of your tuition, carry no bond, and are awarded mainly on your bachelor's or master's GPA.
Application round
AIT's admissions calendar lists 10 June as the deadline for AIT Scholarships, including RTG Fellowships, for the August intake. The RTG page itself still shows the August 2024 intake, which closed on 31 May 2024 "or until the fellowships run out", so apply early in the year rather than waiting for the deadline.
Next round
For the August 2027 intake, expect the fellowship deadline around late May to 10 June 2027. AIT has not published the 2027 dates yet; check the RTG page and the admissions calendar from early 2027.
The IELTS requirement
The fellowship page sets a writing-band floor rather than an overall score: IELTS writing 5.0 (or AIT's own English Entry Test 5.0) for a master's and writing 5.5 for a PhD. With writing 4.5 (master's) or 5.0 (PhD) you can still get in by passing AIT's Bridging Program, which runs from mid-June to late July before the August intake. For regular admission, though, AIT asks for IELTS Academic 6 overall with writing 6 (TOEFL iBT 80), and its FAQ says full scholarships need a score of 6, so 6.0 overall with 6.0 in writing is the practical target. Scores must be no more than two years old.
