The IELTS requirement
The foundation sets no English score of its own. The first stage is a document review, and the second stage asks for whatever your chosen graduate school needs, which for some means a TOEFL score, plus an interview in Japanese or English. If your target programme is taught in English, plan on the university's usual level, around IELTS 6.5; if it's taught in Japanese, you'll study Japanese during the research-student year.
