Amherst College
Amherst College Financial Aid (international students)
A top liberal arts college in Massachusetts that follows a need-blind admission policy for all students, domestic and international, and meets 100% of calculated financial need for every admitted international student who applies for aid. Aid is awarded on the same need basis as for Americans and requires no loans. There is no separate scholarship: you apply for aid with your admission application.
Application round
There is no separate aid round: you are considered when you apply for admission through Early Decision or Regular Decision and file the aid forms. Check the exact deadlines for autumn 2027 entry on the Amherst admission pages.
The IELTS requirement
Amherst sets no IELTS score for aid, but if English is not your native language and your last two years of school were not taught in English you must submit TOEFL iBT, Duolingo or IELTS Academic with the admission application, so sit the test before the deadline. Amherst strongly recommends IELTS Academic 7.5 overall (Duolingo 130 or TOEFL iBT 100 on the old scale), so that is the band to aim for.
