Government of Brunei Darussalam (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship (BDGS)
Brunei's government scholarship for foreign students, run by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It covers a full degree at UBD, UNISSA, UTB, KUPU SB or Politeknik Brunei and is meant for students studying in Brunei for the first time.
Application round
The 2026/27 round opened on 15 December 2025 and closed on 15 February 2026 (no closing time was given). Applications go through the online BDGS form on the Brunei MFA site, with certified copies of your qualifications, passport and two references.
Next round
The 2027/28 call hasn't been published yet. If it follows the 2026/27 pattern it would open around mid-December 2026 and close around mid-February 2027, so aim to have IELTS 6.0 in hand by January 2027.
The IELTS requirement
English is part of the entry requirements and goes in with your application, so you need IELTS 6.0 overall (any module; no per-skill minimum is stated) or one of the alternatives before the February deadline. The scholarship accepts TOEFL 550 or school-level English qualifications instead, but for most Thai applicants IELTS is the practical route. Universities may still interview or test you in English during selection.
Where is your IELTS score now?
