Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
CAS-ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (Degree Program, China)
A science scholarship for postgraduate study at CAS institutes through the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) or the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Each year it supports 100-200 master's students and about 300 PhD students from outside China, in natural sciences, engineering and related fields.
Application round
For the 2026 intake, applications opened on 15 October 2025 and closed for applicants and referees on 31 January 2026, Beijing time (23:00 on 31 January in Thailand). You apply through the UCAS or USTC online admission system and tick "CAS-ANSO Scholarship".
Next round
The 2027-intake call has not appeared on anso.org.cn yet. Recent calls opened in mid-October and closed on 31 January, so expect a similar window and contact a CAS supervisor before then.
The IELTS requirement
ANSO only asks for proficiency in English or Chinese and names no score, so there is no IELTS band to pass for the scholarship itself. The UCAS and USTC admission systems do ask for proof of English for English-taught programmes, uploaded with the application by the January deadline. A valid IELTS of around 6.0 is a sensible target; a supervisor's acceptance and research fit matter more here than a high band.
