Chevening Scholarships (UK Government)
The UK Government's global scholarship for future leaders, open to Thai citizens. It pays for a one-year taught master's at a UK university, and you commit to returning to Thailand afterwards.
Application round
Applications for 2027/28 opened in August 2026 and closed in October 2026 at 11:00 UTC (18:00 in Thailand).
Next round
The 2028/29 round is expected to open around August 2027 and close around October 2027. If you're applying, plan to have the IELTS score your course asks for well before July 2028.
The IELTS requirement
Chevening removed its own English requirement in 2020, so you don't need a test to apply. You do need an unconditional offer from a UK university by 17:00 UK time on 8 July 2027 (for the 2027/28 round), and most universities only make that offer once you reach their IELTS score. For master's courses that's commonly 6.5 overall, but it varies, so check each of your three courses.

Who can apply
- Thai citizen
- Will return to Thailand for at least two years after the scholarship
- At least two years' (2,800 hours) work experience
- A bachelor's degree that qualifies you for a UK master's
- Apply to three eligible UK courses and hold an unconditional offer from one of them
