University of Oxford (Clarendon Fund)
Clarendon Fund Scholarships (University of Oxford)
Over 200 new Clarendon scholarships a year across every subject at Oxford, awarded purely on academic merit. There is no scholarship form: every eligible applicant who applies for a full-time master's or DPhil by the December or January course deadline is considered automatically.
Application round
There is nothing extra to submit. Apply to your Oxford course by the December 2026 or January 2027 deadline shown on the course page, and check the closing time there. Oxford advises submitting at least two weeks early. Divisions shortlist in February-March and most offers go out by the end of April; if you have not heard by mid-June you were not selected.
The IELTS requirement
Clarendon has no English requirement of its own. Your course does: Oxford's standard level is IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with at least 6.5 in each component, and the higher level (many humanities and social science courses) is 7.5 with at least 7.0 in each. You don't need the score to submit the application, but if you don't have it the department usually makes it a condition of the offer with a set deadline, so book a test early. The scores must come from a single sitting.

What it covers
- Course fees in full, for the period of fee liability
- An annual grant for living expenses of at least the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend (at least £20,780 for 2025-26; the 2027-28 figure has not been published)
- Part-time students get a study support grant instead of the living grant
- Travel and visa costs are not covered
Who can apply
- Any nationality and any country of residence
- Applying for a new full-time or part-time master's or DPhil at Oxford, in any subject
- Typically a first-class honours degree or equivalent (e.g. GPA 3.7/4.0); an exceptional master's can offset a moderate first degree
- Not available to applicants with a deferred offer or to current Oxford students continuing the same degree
- Apply to your course by its December or January deadline; a March or later deadline makes you ineligible for Oxford scholarships
