British Council and the UK Government's GREAT Britain Campaign, with participating UK universities
GREAT Scholarships Thailand (British Council)
A tuition-fee scholarship jointly funded by the British Council, the GREAT Britain Campaign and UK universities. For 2026-27 ten universities each offered awards to Thai students on one-year taught master's courses; you apply to the university, not to the British Council.
Application round
Deadlines are set by each university and vary. For the 2026-27 round they fell in spring 2026 (Stirling, for example, closed on 1 May 2026) and all have now passed.
Next round
The 2027-28 list of participating universities hasn't been published yet. Watch the British Council's Thailand page: if the scheme runs again, expect university deadlines in the first half of 2027, so aim to have an IELTS result by early 2027.
The IELTS requirement
The British Council doesn't set a score. You have to meet the English requirement of the university and course you choose, which for taught master's courses is commonly IELTS 6.5 overall, with some courses asking for 7.0. Because most universities want you to hold an offer before you apply for the scholarship, and offers can be conditional on English, plan to have your score by the university's scholarship deadline.
Where is your IELTS score now?
