The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
HKUST Academic Admissions Scholarships for International Qualifications
HKUST's entrance scholarships for students applying with international qualifications, including Thai ones. Every applicant is assessed for the academic awards on merit; the decision arrives with your admission offer. Non-academic awards such as the Future Leaders Award need a separate application.
Application round
The 2027/28 online application opened on 2 October 2026. The Priority Round deadline is 25 November 2026, after which applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; the first offers are announced in late December 2026, and the system closes on 30 June 2027. The application fee is HK$600.
The IELTS requirement
The scholarship has no English score of its own because it rides on your admission. HKUST requires all international-qualification applicants to meet its English language requirement and accepts IELTS Academic, TOEFL, PTE Academic and the Duolingo English Test, but the page doesn't print a single minimum, so check the figure for your programme. Proof of English goes in as a supporting document with the application, so for the priority round you need the result by late November. Plan for at least 6.0, the common benchmark for a bachelor's degree, and higher for competitive programmes.
