Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), through the Embassy of India, Bangkok
ICCR Scholarships (Indian Government, A2A portal)
ICCR funds foreign students at over 130 Indian universities under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship Scheme and smaller schemes for AYUSH and Indian arts. Thailand gets its own slots, and the Embassy of India in Bangkok selects Thai candidates from the A2A portal.
Application round
For 2026-27, the A2A portal took student applications from 27 February (17:00 India time, 18:30 in Thailand) to 22 April 2026, universities confirmed provisional admissions by 31 May, and the Embassy selected candidates by 15 June, with a second round until 30 June. Thai universities relayed an Embassy of India notice giving Thai applicants until 15 May 2026.
Next round
The 2027-28 round hasn't been announced. The portal has opened in late February in recent years and closed in April, so prepare your essay and documents from January 2027 and, if you want to include IELTS, sit it before then.
The IELTS requirement
ICCR sets no IELTS band. The guidelines say you must be proficient enough to follow lessons in English, and the Indian Mission decides whether you are, using your 500-word essay and often an interview. You can upload an IELTS or TOEFL score with your application, and a 6.0 would support your case for most courses, but it isn't mandatory. Some universities set their own English conditions for admission, so check your five choices.
