Kyoto iUP Scholarships (Kyoto University International Undergraduate Program)
Kyoto iUP is Kyoto University's bachelor's route for international students with no Japanese: a six-month preparatory course with intensive Japanese, then a four-year degree taught increasingly in Japanese. Every student can have the admission fees and full or partial tuition waived for the whole 4.5 years, and everyone gets a monthly allowance during the preparatory course. Merit-based allowances from sponsoring companies follow in the degree years. You just tick the scholarship box on the online application.
Application round
For October 2027 enrolment the Online Application System is open from 2 November to 3 December 2026 at 17:00 Japan time (15:00 in Thailand). Late or incomplete applications are not considered, there is an application fee with no waiver, and selection includes a second-stage interview. Select "Yes" to the scholarship question in the application; no separate scholarship form is needed.
The IELTS requirement
Kyoto iUP sets no minimum score, but only TOEFL and IELTS are accepted and the result must be in your application, so you need it before 3 December 2026. The programme says successful candidates typically have IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90, so treat 6.5 as your target. The test must have been taken after the date given in the Application Guidelines.
