Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE)
Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS)
The Malaysian government's postgraduate scholarship for international students, with ASEAN citizens (including Thais) among the eligible groups. You apply online to MOHE for full-time study at a Malaysian university, with priority for nine broad fields.
Application round
The 2026/27 round opened on 4 March 2026 and closed on 3 April 2026, according to Malaysian university notices; MOHE's own page now only says the round is closed and that applicants can check their status online from 8 October to 31 December 2026.
Next round
MOHE hasn't announced the 2027/28 round. The 2026/27 round ran in March, so if the timing repeats you'd want IELTS 6.0 ready by February 2027.
The IELTS requirement
Proof of English goes in with your application, so you need IELTS 6.0 overall (no per-skill minimum; the guidelines don't specify Academic) before the deadline. TOEFL paper-based 550 or an equivalent TOEFL score also counts, and if your bachelor's was taught in English an official letter from the university can replace a test. An admission letter from a Malaysian university isn't mandatory at application, but your chosen university may ask for its own English score later.
Where is your IELTS score now?
