Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI)
MASTER IN – Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) Grant
The Wallonia-Brussels government's grant for international graduates doing a master's in French-speaking Belgium (Wallonia or Brussels). It pays EUR 10,020 over twelve months and covers your health, liability and repatriation insurance, which is enough to meet the student visa's means test, though not the full cost of a year. Applications go through the host institution, which pre-selects candidates before WBI makes the final choice.
Application round
The 2026-27 call closed on 31 March 2026 at midnight Brussels time (05:00 on 1 April in Thailand). You apply to the institution, not to WBI: request admission first, then send the WBI form and four annexes (with your admission file number for universities) to the institution, which ranks candidates for WBI. Final selection was due by 20 April and results reached institutions by 15 May 2026. The study stay must begin in the same calendar year.
Next round
The 2027-28 call has not been announced. Recent calls closed at the end of March, so expect to apply between January and March 2027, with your admission request already in hand.
The IELTS requirement
WBI sets no language score: its FAQ says language tests are recommended but not obligatory, and institutions may offer language courses to fill gaps. Your admission to the master's is what counts, so follow your programme's requirement. English-taught master's in Belgium commonly ask for around IELTS 6.5; French-taught programmes require proof of French instead.
