Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
MIT Scholarship (need-based aid, international students)
MIT admits all undergraduates, domestic and international, without looking at ability to pay and commits to meeting 100% of demonstrated need. The main award is the MIT Scholarship, a grant from MIT's endowment that about 58% of undergraduates receive (median US$73,666 in 2025-26). Whether you are international makes no difference to when or how you apply or to the aid you are offered.
Application round
For entry in autumn 2027, Early Action closed on 1 November 2026 and Regular Action closes on 4 January 2027. Financial aid forms are due 30 November for Early Action and 15 February for Regular Action. Decisions come in mid-December and mid-March.
The IELTS requirement
The aid itself sets no English score, but MIT strongly recommends an English proficiency test for non-native speakers and applies a minimum of IELTS 7.0 (7.5 recommended), TOEFL iBT 90 (100 recommended) or Duolingo 120. Scores go in with the admission application, so for Regular Action sit the test by December 2026. Aim for 7.5 to be safe.
