Monash University
Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS) and international research stipends
Monash's main living-allowance scholarship for research degrees, open to international students on any Australian campus. You don't pick a scholarship: one course application through the myApp portal puts you up for every graduate research scholarship you qualify for, including the tuition scholarships for international students.
Application round
International applicants have two rounds a year: round 1 closes on 31 March and round 3 on 31 July (the July closing date was brought forward in 2026). The rounds on 31 May and 31 October are for domestic applicants only.
Next round
The next international round should close on 31 March 2027, with another on 31 July 2027; Monash has not yet published the 2027 dates. Have your IELTS result by February 2027 to apply in the March round.
The IELTS requirement
Monash sets no scholarship score; you need the admission standard of your faculty, with IELTS Academic taken at a test centre: 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each skill for Engineering, IT, Science, Medicine, Pharmacy and Art, Design and Architecture, or 7.0 overall with 6.5 in each skill for Arts, Business and Economics, Education and Law. The result must be valid (under two years old) when you apply, so have it before the round closes.
