Singapore Management University (SMU)
SMU ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship
SMU's merit scholarship for citizens of ASEAN countries other than Singapore. You submit the scholarship application through the Applicant's Self Service Portal right after your admission application, in the same window.
Application round
The AY2026-27 window opened on 17 November 2025 and closed on 19 March 2026 at 23:59 Singapore time (22:59 in Thailand), with test scores due by 31 March. Submit the admission application first, then the scholarship application in the Applicant Self Service Portal.
Next round
SMU had not published the AY2027-28 dates when we checked. The window usually opens in mid-November and closes in mid-March, so aim to have IELTS 7.0 by early 2027.
The IELTS requirement
The scholarship has no English test of its own, but SMU admission requires one standardised test from applicants with international qualifications such as Thai Mathayom 6. For IELTS Academic that means 7.0 overall with at least 7.0 in Reading and 6.5 in Writing (7.5 overall for Law), all sections in one sitting and no older than two years. SAT 1350, ACT 29, TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic 66 are alternatives. Scores go in with the application, so sit IELTS before the March deadline.
