University of Canterbury (UC)
UC International First Year Scholarship (University of Canterbury)
Canterbury's entry scholarship for high-achieving international school leavers. Students finishing a university-entrance qualification overseas (for example a Thai M.6 certificate with the grades UC asks for, or IB or A-levels) or at UC International College apply in the offshore round, and successful applicants get NZ$15,000 off their first-year fees. Students who finished high school in New Zealand use a separate August round.
Application round
Offshore and UCIC applicants: apply by 15 April for a July start or 31 October for a February start (the 2027 flyer gives the days without a year). The round for the February 2027 intake closed on 31 October 2026. New Zealand school leavers have a separate round closing 6 August.
The IELTS requirement
The scholarship sets no IELTS score; UC's admission requirement for your degree applies. For most UC bachelor's degrees that is IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, with higher scores for programmes such as teaching, nursing and speech and language pathology. Since you must have applied for admission by the scholarship deadline, have the result ready around then.
