University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)
The University of Twente's own merit scholarship for students from outside the EU/EEA who are in the top of their graduating class. It contributes to the cost of a one- or two-year MSc; you first get (conditional) admission, then apply for the scholarship with your student number.
Application round
The UTS application form opened on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 Dutch time and closes on 1 April 2027 at 16:00 Dutch time (21:00 in Thailand). Results are announced in the first week of May 2027. Apply to the programme first; the scholarship form asks for your student number.
The IELTS requirement
The scholarship page lists IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in speaking, as a UTS requirement; TOEFL iBT 90 (speaking 20) is the alternative. You need admission before you can apply, and the admission decision can take up to eight weeks, so to be safe have the IELTS result in hand by January 2027 and apply to the programme early. There is no stated minimum for listening, reading or writing beyond the overall 6.5.

What it covers
- EUR 3,000 to 22,000 for the first year, as a contribution to study-related costs
- For two-year programmes, the same amount again in year two if you hold an average grade of 7/10 and at least 50% of your credits by the end of the third quarter
- Tuition isn't paid on your behalf: the scholarship is paid to you, so the rest of the fees and living costs are yours
- UTS holders can also apply for the Kipaji Scholarship, which has its own conditions
Who can apply
- A nationality from outside the EU/EEA (Thai citizens qualify), and not eligible for Dutch student finance or the statutory EU tuition fee
- Admitted, or provisionally admitted, to one of the qualifying UT master's programmes starting in September 2027 (most MSc programmes; not ITC programmes or the pre-master's)
- Among the best 5 to 10% of your graduating class
- Not a current UT student or UT graduate
- IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with speaking 6.0 (or TOEFL iBT 90 with speaking 20)
