Yale University
Yale College Financial Aid (international students)
Yale's undergraduate aid offers meet 100% of demonstrated need regardless of citizenship, and a family's ability to pay is not a factor in admission for any student, anywhere in the world. Aid comes as a Yale Scholarship that never has to be repaid. You apply for admission and for aid in the same round; there is no separate scholarship application.
Application round
For entry in autumn 2027, Single-Choice Early Action closed on 1 November 2026 and Regular Decision closes on 2 January 2027. Financial aid documents for international Early Action applicants are due 1 December and for Regular Decision 15 February.
The IELTS requirement
Yale sets no IELTS score for aid. Non-native English speakers without two years at an English-medium secondary school must submit an English proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, DET or InitialView) with the admission application, so sit it before the deadline. Yale says its most competitive applicants score IELTS 7 or higher (TOEFL iBT 100 on the old scale), so aim for 7.0 by December 2026 if you apply Regular Decision.
