Founder of ClayLingua | IELTS Study Tools & Research
Joseph Clay is the founder of ClayLingua, an IELTS preparation platform for Thai learners that he started in 2025. He also runs the ClayLingua IELTS Facebook group, where more than 1,500 Thai learners share their scores, ask questions and get study advice.
The guides come from those conversations. Joseph answers questions with real numbers, and he built the tools that answer them for each learner, including the free IELTS study planner, score estimates and practice drills. His short IELTS videos have been watched around one million times.
Joseph also built mock tests, drills, lessons and flashcards to help IELTS students progress quickly and reach their goals.
Before ClayLingua, Joseph started working as a software engineer in 2020, leading backend projects at large companies in the UK. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering. This background is why ClayLingua's score estimates are built from data, not guesses.
He is a language learner himself. He speaks English, German, French, Spanish, Thai and Mandarin to various levels, so he knows how to progress in language learning.
His guides draw on official IELTS sources, such as the band descriptors and IELTS test statistics, and on published research into how scores change during preparation. Every guide lists its sources so you can check them.
How the guides are written
Written by Joseph from the official IELTS band descriptors, IELTS test statistics and the published research listed in each guide's sources, and shaped by the questions Thai learners ask most in the ClayLingua study group. Every figure links to where it comes from. Found a mistake? Tell us.
